Balboa

Balboa Swing Dance (Bal-Swing) started as a Two-step which goes back to the 1890's.

It was born in California at the Balboa Peninsula.

A cult of Prostitutes called the Hieroduleites ran dancing in Balboa. Some came to California from the bordellos of Argentina, so the link to Tango is obvious.

Balboa has a close embrace like Tango.

Tango Canyengue is the strongest influence . The girl tries in Bal Swing to follow the weight movement of the guy just as in tango.

Many Charleston steps are incorporated into Balboa. Most dances of the same era blend a bit.
