Reti Opening

Richard Reti liked Reverse Openings. In this type of Kings Indian Attack 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2 Nc6 4.d4 their are many other Wagon trails.

1. Nf3 d5 2g3 (Main alternatives 2.b3 Queens Indian Defense Colors Reversed, 2 c4 Reti Gambit, 2.b3 Nimzowitch Variation) 2...c5 (2...Nf6 is also good). Homework question: What does 2...Nf6 try and prevent?

1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2 Nc6 4.d4 ( Their are many alternatives here castling 4.O-O is a main line) 4... e6 5. O-O 5...Qb6!! is a good move A reversed Gruenfeld Russian.

In Game 1 I try to hang on to my bishop pair after 6.dxc5 Bxc5 7.Nc3 with 7...Qa6 Game 1 It prevents losing the Bishop pair to 8...Na4 but the move 8.Qd3 is such a beautiful move one might not see it. On exchanging of the Queens 8...Qxd3 9 cxd3 White opens his c file develops and prepares an attack on c7. Now Black is committed after giving up the exchange and possibly winning a knight. He should hang on to that Bishop pair.

What was the best move for Black? Korchnoi tried. After the 1. Nf3 d5 2. d4 e6 3. g3 c5 4. Bg2 Nc6 5. O-O Qb6 6. dxc5 Bxc5 7. Nc3 (same position transposed)Bb4 Game 2

What does White hope for with 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2 Nc6 4.d4 ? A Reversed Gruenfeld Defense Exchange variation one move ahead 4...cxd4 5. 5.Nxd4 e5 Game 3 White wins 70% of the time with this line.

Another move is 4... Nf6 Don't worry about White taking the pawn 5.dxc5 5... e5 gives Black a fine game.

But in this line where White castles. I like the copy cat move 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 c5 3.Bg2 Nc6 4.d4 Nf6 5. O-O g6!! Game 4
