  • Mieses, Jacques 1865- 1954 born Leipzig

    International Grandmaster . He went to school in Leipzig and Berlin but fled Nazi persecution of Jews before the war. Luckily he went to England.

    His play was so full of speculative openings it probably affected his score in tournaments.

    Composing problems and being a chess reporter may have also slowed his career.

    He started playing hardball in tournaments at the age of 23 scoring second place at Nuremberg 1888 . Still at the age of 80 he won a brilliancy prize at the Hasting Congress.

  • In 1922 Jacques Meises tried to introduce a new type of Dutch defence 1. d4 f5 2. g3 b6 (he lost both times see below games) since then it may have been tried like once or twice. But is it bad?
