Fandango can be in 3/4 time but its linked to ancient theater so nothing is set in stone.

Fandango comes from the Roman dance Iconici Motus but it was too erotic then for Spaniards. So it was tamed down.

It goes back well past the first century A.D.

It been in the Philippines for over 300 years . There its called Pandango sa Ilaw 'Fandango with Lights'

The portuguese have many versions of it. Fandango Ribatejano is the most famous.
